Projects always start off so darn exciting! You found inspiration, laid out a plan, sourced your materials, got someone to watch your kids for a few hours, and then dive in with confidence and an “I can do anything” mindset.

Then the inevitable happens. You hit a roadblock. It gets hard. Something doesn’t go the way you planned. Your mindset shifts to “Why did I think that I could do this again?”

That moment came for me yesterday as I was struggling with a corner panel of wallpaper. I sat down, let the emotions come, and tried to shift my mindset. I can do hard things. I can learn from my mistakes. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. And if someone wants to judge my corner panels not lining up perfectly, that’s their problem. I am PROUD of not only how the space looks but of myself for taking the initiative to join this challenge and move out of my comfort zone. To take action to create my home to be a reflection of me and my family. And every time I come into this space I am reminded of “Hey, I did this!” and “If I can do this, what else can I do that I haven’t tried yet?”

I like that this wallpaper is called “Wildwood”. Nature is wild. And life should be a wild adventure too.

This is where I started the week:

Coming up This week

Not sure I’ll get to everything on this list but that’s okay! Here’s the plan:

  • Toilet area
    • Install toilet paper holder
    • Wallpaper light switch cover
    • Come up with a plan for the light – an electrician, can light converter, or just a simple dimmer switch.
  • Start in the Main area
    • Caulk crown molding in preparation for painting the ceiling
    • Paint the ceiling
    • Address “Boob Light Fan” – see if I can change it myself or call an electrician
    • Start prepping the cabinets for painting

  1. Thank you for being honest about how hard and emotional DIY can be. I didn’t notice a single thing wrong with your wallpaper and I have found that I am usually the only one who actually sees the imperfections in my own projects as well. Can’t wait to see what else you can get on the challenge over the next few weeks.
