This week of the One Room Challenge did not go as planned but you know what? I feel good!

There are so many highs and lows to decorating and renovating, even on the small scale projects like I’m tacking that don’t remove walls or take the room down to the studs. I’ve really had to surrender the outcome, appreciate the process (the good and the bad!), and have some fun along the way. I’m just so excited to have our primary bathroom be a place of inspiration first thing in the morning, a calming, warm hug at the end of a long day, AND have it be a true reflection of me and my style. A place I can be proud of.

This past week I made some additional progress in the toilet area by installing a dimmer switch and toilet paper holder, covering the light switch cover in wallpaper, and the BIG one was finding the can light converter (only $18??) and getting this beautiful light fixture installed. Read all about it here

Then I moved into the main area of the bathroom to start the ceiling and that’s where things got a little dicey. I kept looking at the tall cabinet on Mike’s vanity and it just felt so off. It’s funny how it’s been like that for years and I never really noticed. But now that I see it, I can’t unsee it! I think it would be fine if the cabinet didn’t go to the ceiling if our mirrors weren’t so tall but having the cabinet end below the top of the mirror doesn’t work visually. I do like the mirrors and the new lights that flank them so I’ll find a way to address the cabinet. I am kicking myself a little bit of why I didn’t plan for this ahead of time but you know what? Live and learn and appreciate the process!

Here is the before:

So! I need to figure out what to do with the cabinet and after looking at inspiration, I’m still undecided. I did take off the door and crown and that already made a difference visually. I may keep it open shelving (since the door hits the door trim anyways!) and add bead board to the back. And then either add an open box on top or just a cool basket for decor. I’m going to play around with it some more and will keep you posted!

And the “boob light” fan and I are not on speaking terms at the moment. Ha! I removed the light and realized I measured the exterior fixture instead of the interior box so the new fan I bought was the wrong size. Lesson learned! I received the correct size yesterday and I just can’t for the life of me get the old box out. I removed the motor and the disconnected the electrical but I think I might have to go up into the attic and that fact alone might have me calling an electrician. I am going to give it one more go but then call in reinforcements. And I’m reminding myself there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. I can only do so much and I think it’s smart to know where I’m lacking and ask for help.

So here’s what’s on tap for this upcoming week:

  • Figure out tall cabinet
  • Figure out ceiling fan removal and installation
  • Clean, Caulk, Paint Ceiling
  • Prep Cabinets for Painting
  • Learn how to use my new Paint Sprayer (!!!) to spray the cabinets

And from my family to yours, I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend.

See you next week!
